Coffee Scrub for cellulite: myth or truth?

by coffees.gr

A "home" treatment of the most common skin problem.

It is not uncommon for beauty products to use a variety of herbal products, with often controversial results. Of the natural products used to produce beauty products, coffee could not, of course, escape, a particularly healthy product, rich in antioxidants, the benefits of which, when consumed conventionally, are a given. But what about "alternatives" to using coffee, such as cosmetics?

One of the most popular cosmetic products used by coffee is the body scrub for cellulite, which is based on ground coffee beans.

What is cellulite and how does coffee treat it?

By cellulite we mean the small dimples on the skin, which appear in the majority of women, but also in a small number of men. The dimples appear mainly in areas of the body with adipose tissue, such as the hips and buttocks. Cellulite is really difficult to treat, and the main treatment is to improve the image of the skin - and coffee is supposed to help in this direction.

Proponents of treating cellulite with coffee scrubs claim that coffee dilates blood vessels, reducing the appearance of cellulite symptoms. Also, the normal dilation of skin tissue due to the presence of caffeine, reduces the extent of cellulite, as well as the elimination of excess water, also due to the presence of caffeine.

It is also a fact that coffee scrubs help to effectively exfoliate the skin, removing dead layers of skin tissue and making the skin look healthy and radiant. Exfoliation is of course not directly related to cellulite, but improved skin health contributes to the better appearance of the skin, and therefore to a certain extent, the reduction of cellulite. Also, the coffee scrub is usually applied with a massage, which helps reduce cellulite on its own.

The only thing that is certain, and to which the scientists agree, is that the antioxidants contained in coffee improve the health of the skin in general, even if they do not directly help cellulite.

What are the risks of a Coffee Scrub for cellulite?

First of all, it is important to note that there is insufficient scientific evidence for the validity of the claim that caffeine helps eliminate cellulite, which in itself is enough to make us skeptical of the method.

Also, if we want to deal with cellulite, it is necessary to talk to experts from the beginning (dermatologist and family doctor) and keep in mind that no medicine or cosmetics can replace exercise and proper nutrition.

Finally, it is good to know that the small or big benefits of using Coffee Scrub are temporary, and require long-term use of the product and patience to have a better and more permanent result.

Homemade Coffee Scrub for cellulite and how we use it

To prepare a homemade coffee scrub, we will need a cup of ground coffee, 6 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3 tablespoons of sea salt. Mix all ingredients (first solids and then liquid) and store in a closed, sterile jar.
Apply on clean skin, ideally after the bath. We massage the area we are interested in, with a soft brush or with our fingertips. After a few massage cycles, rinse with plenty of water (ideally in the shower to avoid soiling).

Coffee is a truly magical product, with endless possibilities. How did that old ad say that? Do not drink it… bathe!
