It is a fact that real coffee lovers do not particularly like beverages with excessive chocolate, whipped cream or other additions other than coffee - but for the frozen Latte with Nutella everyone will make an exception!
Coffee is extremely flexible as a material, as it can provide the basis for dozens of interesting and delicious beverages - hot or cold. It has occasionally been combined with milk, spices, chocolate, citrus, and even eggs. Each coffee culture develops its own distinct recipes, influenced by local gastronomy and everyday habits, which in turn affects it. So while the Arabs add aromatic spices to their coffee and the Italians have developed a range of beverages that combine espresso with milk, the American Coffee Culture puts a special emphasis on the polystyrene coffees that overflow with syrups, whipped cream and chocolate.
Most coffee enthusiasts, at least in Europe, stand with some mistrust over heavy American chocolate coffees. It is not a lie that many accompaniments tend to gratify the taste of coffee while the addition of syrups, sugar and whipped cream converts the zero calories of the coffee into a real caloric bomb, with what it implies for our health.
However, there is an exception, and in this case Iced Nutella Latte. The taste of Nutella (or, in Greek, Merenda) wakes up to most of our memories related to our childhood - it is a favorite taste, instantly recognizable and highly loved. So, adding a spoonful of Nutella to a frozen Latte may be in some sense the definition of comfort food: a refreshing, tasty coffee that can make us feel like children again!
The preparation of Iced Nutella Latte is particularly easy and its calories (if we moderate sugar and omit the whipped cream) can be kept at normal levels. Unlike others, frozen chocolate coffees, the taste of coffee remains dominant, just the twist that Nutella adds makes the coffee even more enjoyable!
What do you need for an Iced Nutella Latte?
- 1 cup hot strong coffee (can be filter or a double espresso)
- 1/2 cup of cold milk
- 1 full tablespoon of Nutella or Merenda
- Coffee ice cubes
- Whipped Cream (optional)
How is Iced Nutella Latte prepared?
- Dissolve the praline in the hot coffee, and let it come to room temperature
- Beat the coffee-praline mix with the ice cubes
Add the milk and stir - Add grated ice if desired, and garnish optionally with whipped cream.
Tips for a delicious Iced Nutella Latte
- The addition of praline gives itself a sweet taste in coffee, making sugar unnecessary. More sugar will soften the taste of coffee - but if you insist, add it to the hot coffee.
- Coffee ice cubes is a good idea to keep the flavor of your frozen coffee strong - you can make it with either an espresso or a filter coffee, but your coffee should be at room temperature before getting in the refrigerator.
- Adding grated ice will give your coffee an even more refreshing feel, but if you want, you can omit it without big differences in taste.
- Children are good to stay away from Iced Nutella Latte - it has their favorite praline, but it remains a coffee beverage, rich in caffeine and therefore unsuitable for their age.
- If you use espresso, prefer a blend containing Robusta, equivalent to what you would choose for Freddo Espresso or Freddo Cappucino, in order to have a strong body and intense taste that will not be overcrowded by the praline. You can use Cagliari's Gran Caffe or Lavazza's Grande Ristorazione, which contain 30% of Robusta and keep their flavors in frozen beverages.
- You can use whipped cream to add various toppings, such as truffles, chocolate pieces, grated nuts - but in this way we increase calories and reduce the taste of coffee.
