A road map to delicious Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino, for every taste.
It is definitely the most popular cold coffee in Greece, the habit we remember as soon as the weather warms up: the reason, of course, for Freddo Espresso, but also for its cousin, Freddo Cappuccino. Without a doubt, this is our "national" coffee, which is incredibly popular, both in restaurants and for home consumption, during the spring and summer months.
One of the most frequently asked questions by coffee lovers is "Which coffee is right for Freddo"? Of course, there is no single answer to this question, as the matter of personal taste is very important - however, we have drawn up a "road map" dividing the blends into "strong" and "fruity" and covering almost all tastes, both for those who love their Freddo with a strong body and flavor that remains unchanged, and for those who cannot part with the intoxicating aromas of Arabica even in the summer.
Which espresso blends are suitable for Freddo?
The "strong ones", for Freddo Espresso that does not lose its body
One of the biggest "enemies" of Freddo Espresso is the feeling of "watering", as the ice melts and dilutes our coffee. As coffee is generally drunk hot, it is not always easy to discover coffees that retain their body, flavor and aroma in cold brews. Not a few coffee lovers prefer blends with a relatively high Robusta content for their Freddo Espresso or Freddo Cappuccino, as Robusta provides intensity and body to the blend, keeping the taste and feel of the coffee unchanged.Even those who don't particularly like the "bad boy" of coffee, Robusta, will change their minds after tasting a delicious freddo from a blend with a 30-40% Robusta content.
Bazzara Aromamore: A complex and aromatic blend, but at the same time full of intensity and vitality. Rich notes of chocolate, caramel and nuts, in the most delicate freddo you've ever tasted.
La Brasiliana SuperMoka: Fruity and with chocolate aromas, but at the same time with a strong, velvety body, it retains all its flavor and aroma even in cold brews, for the most enjoyable Freddos.
Mikah Blend 07 Milano: With an ideal balance between Arabica and Robusta, a blend that follows the tradition of Northern Italian espresso, which will surprise you in its cold version.
The "fruity-floral" ones, for those who don't part with Arabica even in their iced coffees
In contrast to those who enjoy the intensity of Robusta in the iced version of espresso, there are of course the "unrepentant": the keen lovers of Arabica who insist on enjoying its special, complex aromas in a Freddo Espresso or Freddo Cappuccino. There is no "right and wrong" in coffee, as it is important to enjoy coffees that suit our personal taste buds. A blend of aromatic Arabica can of course, in the hands of an experienced barista or home barista, give excellent results in cold brews – it just requires, perhaps, a little more care.
Moka Efti 100% Arabica: An espresso blend of the best Arabica beans from Central and South America, as well as Ethiopia. Delightful aroma, natural sweetness and persistent aftertaste as well as a deep taste reminiscent of cocoa with hints of citrus make this Moka Efti blend irresistible.
Εl Miguel Reserva Do Fundador: El Miguel's "founder's blend" consists of 90% Arabica, with Robusta subtly complementing it. Popular and beloved, it gives excellent Freddos in addition to traditional espressos.
Gima Perla Nera: Gima Caffe's "Black Pearl" bases its aroma on Arabica, with Robusta providing the body and intensity it needs. Aromas of cinnamon and anise and notes of chocolate will make your cold coffee as enjoyable as possible.
Summer is already here, and delicious Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino are filling our glasses – let's choose the best blends, because only good coffee matters. The coffee we deserve!
