Αre you ready for... Dubai Coffee?

Could last year's ultimate culinary trend be transformed into... coffee?

“Dubai” chocolate first appeared in 2021, by a British-Egyptian entrepreneur, Sarah Hamouda. Trying to stand out from the competition, she attempted to create her own unique, signature product and founded Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai. The idea for her special chocolate came, as she reveals, from her pregnancy cravings. Thus, she created a milk chocolate, filled with pistachio praline and phyllo kadaifi, creating a product that, in addition to being original and delicious, also proved to be extremely photogenic.

It was precisely this photogenicity of Dubai Chocolate that made it the ultimate gastronomic trend of the past year. A TikTok video by an influencer in December 2023, skyrocketed Fix Chocolatier’s sales, even “throwing” its website out of demand. Soon, thousands of influencers around the world were posting their own content, briefly making Dubai Chocolate a status symbol – until many people started trying to make it at home, and other companies started riding the wave, producing their own products based on Hamouda’s recipe.

A year or so later, there is no person on the planet who has not seen or tasted a “Dubai” sweet: chocolate bars, chocolates, cakes, cakes… the list is endless, as are the pistachios and kadaifi that are now used liberally in confectionery.

Could we make… Dubai Coffee? Of course we could! Delicious, ideal for social media and very, very sweet, it is a coffee that may not become our everyday favorite, but it is a playful recipe that will impress our guests.

What do we need for Dubai Coffee?

A double espresso (60 ml)
150 ml milk
1 tablespoon pistachio praline
1-2 teaspoons matcha powder
30 ml milk for frothing milk
1-2 teaspoons cocoa
Grated peanut
Crushed kadaifi leaf
How to prepare Dubai Coffee

Extract the Espresso
Heat the 150 grams of milk, add the pistachio paste and mix well until it is completely dissolved
Optionally, add the matcha, in order to give a green color (at the same time, it balances the excessive sweetness).
Add the espresso
In the remaining milk, dissolve the cocoa well after heating it, and whisk it into a frothy milk
Serve in a transparent glass, first adding the milk mixture and then the frothy milk on top.
Finish with grated pistachio and crumbled kantaifi leaf, which we have roasted in butter.

As we understand it, this is a calorie bomb coffee, and it will certainly not excite those who love plain, strong espresso. However, those who want to experiment, try something different and feel part of this incredible trend, have just found the recipe they must try, at least once!
