Thrilling, enjoyable, trendy & hip: meet Espresso Tonic !

There are dozens of ways to enjoy an espresso. In recent years, a new way of drinking espresso is gaining ground, especially in the summer: the refreshing espresso tonic!

What does make an espresso tonic so different ;

At first, the combination of a strong coffee like espresso with the sour, slightly bitter taste of tonic can be a pang, but those who have tried it speak of a light, refreshing, toning and summer drink, perfect for hot days and relaxed afternoons. The espresso tonic could be described as the espresso of the Instagram generation, and although it is mailny connected with hipster cafes and specialized baristas, it is easily prepared at home, if you have the ability to prepare an espresso yourself. The result is both refreshing and impressive, since the bubbly tonic tends to push the espresso upwards, creating a beverage that, if not stirred, appears to be layered.

What you need for a refreshing espresso tonic :

  • A double Espresso
  • 150 ml Tonic Water
  • A Lime
  • Ice

How Espresso Tonic is prepared ?

  • Prepare the double espresso and shake it with some ice cubes - your beverage is supposed to be cool and refreshing.
  • Place the tonic in a tall and wide glass and fill with ice. Pour gently the double espresso.
  • Garnish with a slice of lime and some mint leaves
  • Add some drops of lime juice

Tips for an enjoyable espresso tonic :

  • If you prepare espresso tonic for the first time and you are not familiar with the particular flavor combinations, you can completely omit the lime - the taste will be milder, ideal for a first try. Many also add grated ginger - if you are daring, try it!

  • As the tonic is characterized by natural bitterness, it is good to use an espresso that is characterized by sweetness, otherwise your beverage will be excessively bitter - a blend of 100% arabica grains, such as Danesi Doppio or Buondi Limited Edition is a good , safe choice.

  • There is no rule on how much lime should be used. Make experimentations by adding it little by litte, ending up in a ratio that satisfies your own, personal taste.

  • Do not overdo it with the addition of ice, as the melting ice will dilute your espresso tonic, destroying its taste. It is best to cool the glass in your refrigerator beforehand so that you can enjoy your espresso tonic at the right temperature without spoiling its taste.

  • When it comes to sugar, opinions differ: many prefer their espresso tonic neat, with a strong flavor, and there are also coffee lovers who prefer it sweet. In any case, add the desired sugar to the hot espresso before shaking it with ice so the sugar dissolves completely.

  • An interesting variation of the espresso tonic, can be made using Cold Brew coffee! In this case, fill a glass of Cold Brew and ice to the waist and serve together with a bottle of tonic, so that everyone can add as much tonic water as he wants.

  • Upload a picture of your Espresso tonic at Instagram - the #espressotonic hastag counts over 14,000 posts!
