During summer, whether we choose hot or cold coffee, it's a time that we can allow ourselves small delicious dishes.

Even if we prefer our coffee to be served plain, there are additions that can give our beverages a distinctive character. Certainly, several of these supplements increase the calories of the coffee and should be consumed in moderation, especially if we take care of our diet. However, a small deviation never harmed anyone and is a pleasant break from routine, even if we love simple tastes. Besides, not all additions are full of calories, as there are toppings that enrich the taste of coffee without adding unnecessary fat and sugars.

Whatever we choose to accompany our favorite hot or cold coffee, the only sure thing is that this summer we will be full of different flavors - our coffee can become the canvas that will take off with some clever touches.

How can we enrich the taste of ours summer coffee?

By adding Ice Cram: An ice cream ball can give extra flavor and wonderful texture to our coffee. If we add ice cream to our espresso, we have a traditional Italian espresso affogatto, if we add ice cream to the frape we have a specialty that was quite common in various coffee shops in the 1980s. We can also use a blender to mix ice cream with cold coffee of our choice (such as cold filter coffee, cold brew or freddo espresso) to make a milkshake drink, but at the same time will have a strong coffee flavor. Taste is the only limitation. The ice cream flavors that usually blend nicely with coffee are vanilla, chocolate (of any taste) and of course, mocha!

With some drops of syrup: Both hot and cold coffee can gain a special flavor with a few drops of syrup. In case we want to explore different flavors in our cup, we do not choose the usual syrups for ice cream, but it is best to choose special coffee syrups that are easy to dissolve in both hot and cold drinks. Timeless and classic choices are caramel syrup or hazelnut syrup, but we can also experiment with more unexpected combinations, such as banana syrup.

Sprinkling with a few spices: Although the authentic, Italian cappuccino is not usually served with cinnamon, in Greece seems particularly love the cinnamon cream that crowns our favorite coffee both in hot and in cold version. Spices such as cinnamon are great addition to any coffee, hot or cold, having cream, and if we want to try new flavors, we can try instead of cinnamon, spices such as nutmeg (which matches more earthy coffees) , the cardamom (giving an oriental note near the taste of Arabic coffee) or ginger (giving a light and peppery feeling). The only limitation is our imagination!

By serving with whipped cream: For many coffee enthusiasts, the addition of whipped cream is a red cloth, because despite its popularity, there are few who claim to "captivate" the taste of coffee, adding even a lot of calories. However, in a lot of frozen drinks, such as the espresso, a small dose of whipped cream can add points to overall enjoyment, and the same is true with several hot, winter coffees. In a healthier (and traditional) version, we can use fresh cream instead of ready made whipped cream or if we want to balance the calories, not add sugar to our coffee - cream or whipped cream will significantly relieve the taste .

By topping with chocolates, nuts or cookies:  If we use whipped cream, we can enrich our coffee's flavor even more, using a variety of toppings, such as grated chocolate, biscuits or grated nuts. Depending on the taste profile of the coffee we prefer, we can also choose the topping: a coffee with earthy notes fits well with fried almond or grated pistachio, a coffee that is famous for the chocolate aftertaste will marry perfectly with chocolate chunks while a latte will definitely love the grated biscuit. In addition to toppings, these garnishes can also be placed in the coffee body and ground into the blender, giving our drink a distinct texture.

Summer is the season of pleasure and relaxation. Inside the pleasures we owe to ourselves, it is also good coffee - and why not, with a little delicious twist!
