Taste of coffee, in one of the most popular snacks.

There is no man who, thinking of his childhood, does not smile at the memory of the most delicious and delicious children's breakfast: a slice of bread smeared with Merenda!

In Greece, by the word "Merenda" we came to mean any chocolate spread, due to the incredible popularity of the real Merenda, which monopolized the interest and love of all young and old children. Is there a way to combine one of the most beloved habits of our childhood with an adult delight? Of course - making homemade "Merenda" with coffee flavor!

The coffee spread with coffee flavor is very easy to make, has a rich taste and unique aroma, which is also endowed by the strong instant coffee that we use. It is easy to keep in the fridge and promises hellish mornings if spread on hot, toasted bread.

 

What do you need for Coffee Spread?

  • 50 grams of coconut sugar
  • 75 ml of water
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 125 ml whole milk

 

How is Coffee Spread prepared?

  • Finely chop the chocolate into small pieces
  • In a saucepan, boil water, sugar, vanilla spirit and coffee over medium heat. Once it boils, remove from the heat
  • Add the chocolate and stir until melted
  • Add the milk and homogenize
  • Transfer to a jar and leave for 3-4 hours
  • Store in the refrigerator and always serve at room temperature.

 

Tips for a delicious Coffee Spread

  • To effectively melt the chocolate in the hot syrup, you can use a hand blender.
  • If you do not find vanilla extract, we easily replace it with a little petimezi or even honey.
  • Use a chocolate with a high content of cocoa (ideally, over 70%) for a richer taste
  • Coconut sugar has a more "sticky" texture, and will help texture our spread. If you can not find it, use good quality brown sugar and add a little molasses.
  • Keep your coffee spread away from children, as it contains instant coffee, and therefore caffeine. If we replace coffee with a little paste of nuts, we make an enjoyable spread suitable for children.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks
  • Before serving, it is good to take the spread out of the fridge, so that it comes to room temperature and is easy to spread.
