Coffee BBQ Sauce, for delicious toast

03/03/2021
by coffees.gr

An American sauce gives coffee aroma to our roasts.

This year's Tsiknopempthi will be ... strange, as the lockdown (inside the lockdown, inside the lockdown) has made the grills and taverns an elusive dream. However, nothing prevents us from maintaining our good mood and transporting the meat of the day home, baking on the balcony (if we are lucky) but also - why not - in the oven or pan.

How can we, as coffee lovers, enrich the traditional, meat-eating table of Swan Thursday? With a handmade, Coffee BBQ Sauce, full of aroma and taste, that will take off our roasts and give them another note. The taste of the sauce does not exactly resemble coffee, but it borrows from our favorite drink its intensity, its delicious depth and its aroma, ending up in flavors reminiscent of caramel, with strong aromas of roasting.

Coffee BBQ Sauce is easy to make, keeps for days in the fridge and goes great with grilled meat, giving an American, Tex-Mex air to our snack. This year, the element that will make the difference in the grilling will, without a doubt, have a coffee aroma!

What do we need for Coffee BBQ Sauce?

1/2 a cup of strong coffee
1 cup ketchup
Or a cup of brown sugar
Or a cup of white vinegar
Or a cup of chopped onion
Tabasco
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons cumin
2 tablespoons cayenne pepper

How do we prepare the Coffee BBQ Sauce?

Place all the ingredients in a deep pan over medium heat
After it boils, lower the heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes
Leave to cool and store in a jar
Serve with grilled meat (steaks, pancakes, burgers etc)

Tips for Coffee BBQ Sauce that everyone will lick their fingers

The sauce is kept in the refrigerator without any problem for 2-3 weeks
It goes well with grilled meats such as pancakes, steaks and generally with beef and pork. The most "Greek" roasts, such as lamb and goat, are looking for other kinds of sauces.
We can make excellent Coffee Burgers with Coffee BBQ Sauce, which will drive anyone who tries them crazy.
We use instant coffee, for a more intense taste, or French (it is better to use more coffee than a conventional cup). The sauce can be made with espresso, but we will need enough coffee!
We can experiment a bit with the spices we will use. Oregano and thyme are two spices that will go perfectly with the rest of the aromas, as long as we do not overdo it.
We do not add salt, because soy sauce is extremely salty in itself.
By replacing cayenne and tabasco with Sriracha, we keep the sauce spicy, while giving a touch of Asian cuisine.
If we have a little sauce left, it becomes a wonderful dip for chips!

Our Tsiknopempti may be lonely, but there is no reason why it should not be delicious! Coffee BBQ Sauce will give another air to our baked goods and will fill them with flavor.
