by coffees.gr

The most popular Brazilian cocktail meets Brazilian coffee.

Caipirinha is the "national" cocktail of Brazil, and is a simple recipe based on Cachaça, the Brazilian equivalent of rum, distilled from sugar cane, to which ice, lime and sugar are added. Its name can be translated as "village girl" and its roots are lost in the depths of time, but it is certain that Brazilians have enjoyed it for at least 150 years. Today, it is the most popular cocktail in all of Brazil, but also one of the most popular cocktails in the world, to the point where it is estimated that all Cachaca exports end up in Caipirinha glasses and jugs!

But Brazil is not only famous for this tropical, summer cocktail, but also for its coffee! As the largest coffee producer in the world, Brazil is synonymous with coffee, producing almost 1/3 of world's coffee. From the first coffee plant planted in the country in 1727 until today, Brazilian coffee is so widespread, that it is certain that we have enjoyed it many times, whatever coffee we prefer and whatever blend we choose.

What happens if we marry two of the most important Brazilian products, coffee and Caipirinha? But, of course, Coffee Caipirinha, a cocktail that combines the exotic aromas of lime and Cachaça with the power and tonic action of coffee, in a drink that is great for starting the night or for a relaxed summer afternoon.

What do you need for a Coffee Caipirinha;

  • lime
  • A tablespoon of brown sugar
  • 60ml Cachaça
  • A double espresso (60 ml)
  • Ice
  • Coffee Beans, to serve

How is Coffee Caipirinha prepared?

  • In a metal cocktail shaker, place the sliced lime and brown sugar.
  • Crush with a pestle until all the aromas come out.
  • Add the Cachaça, the espresso and ice
  • Beat vigorously for 15-20 seconds
  • Strain into a tall glass, add extra ice and garnish with a slice of lime and a few coffee beans

Tips for delicious Coffee Caipirinhas

  • For a less bitter result, remove the white part from the lime
  • Wash the Limes very well before squeezing them and make sure they are unwaxed.
  • Cachaca is the national drink of Brazil, and is easily found in updated wine cellars. However, if we do not find it, we can replace it with rum
  • Use an espresso blend from Brazil, to emphasize the special character of the cocktail! Lavazza Tierra Brasile Intense and Brasile Extra Intense blends, as well as Ipanema  blends, are ideal choices.
  • Cachaca is available in two forms: white and aged. For Coffee Caipirinha we prefer its white, fresh version, as the aged drink is more suitable for warm, winter mixes.
  • Use a cocktail shaker made of stainless steel, which evenly distributes the temperature and freezes the drink effectively.
  • This cocktail contains coffee, but also strong alcohol. Enjoy responsibly and leave the steering wheel aside.

Summer wants iced coffee, but also imaginative, cool cocktails! With Coffee Caipirinha, we have it all in the same glass, which really smells like Brazil! Obrigado!
