Coffee Cinnamon Rolls for Sunday mornings

28/01/2021
by coffees.gr

The most fashionable dessert gets a coffee aroma.

It is without a doubt one of the most popular desserts of recent years, as they appear in hip cafes, baked ovens, many brunch tables and many Instagram stories. The reason of course for Cinnamon Rolls, a delicious, fluffy and warm pastry dessert, which fits perfectly in the winter weather.

The roots of our Cinnamon Roll come from Scandinavia and can be traced back to the bread-making efforts of the Swedish bakers when cinnamon was first introduced to Europe. The Cinnamon Rolls quickly conquered North America, while in recent years their fashion has hit Europe and, of course, Greece for good.

Traditionally, as their name suggests, Cinnamon Rolls are flavored with cinnamon, but our version could not but taste ... coffee! So, we use coffee in the dough, coffee in the filling and coffee in the icing, in a sweet that smells of butter, homemade baking and of course, coffee.

The recipe may seem complicated and time consuming, but it is simpler than it first seems, and as for the time, do you have in mind better for a Sunday breakfast in the middle of a lockdown?

What do we need for Coffee Cinnamon Rolls?

For the stuffing

60 grams of butter
150 grams of brown sugar
1. Teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons instant coffee

For the dough

500 grams of flour for all uses
7 grams of dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
100 grams of sugar
2 tablespoons instant coffee
60 grams of butter
1 large egg (at room temperature)
1 cup of milk
For the coffee icing

200 grams of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons instant coffee
60 grams of butter
Vanilla extract

How are Coffee Cinnamon Rolls prepared?

In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon and instant coffee for the filling and set aside.
In the bowl of the mixer, put the ¾ of flour, salt and yeast
In another bowl, combine the milk, sugar, coffee and butter, lightly melted
Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and beat in the mixer on low speed (ideally with a kneading hook)
Add the egg and continue kneading, until our dough becomes elastic and add the rest of the flour, spoon by spoon
Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes
On a floured surface, make a rectangle 0.5 cm thick and measuring 30 x 60 cm with the dough
Butter the dough, leaving a piece 6cm from the large dimension empty
Sprinkle with the remaining filling ingredients
Wrap the dough horizontally and cut it into 9 equal pieces
Leave the rolls for half an hour in a CLOSED oven that has been preheated to 100 degrees
Then, bake them for half an hour at 180 degrees
Prepare the icing, mixing the icing sugar, the coffee butter and the vanilla
Cover the rolls with the icing and serve!

What do we need for Coffee Cinnamon Rolls?

The recipe is simpler than it first seems, and if we follow it step by step, our rolls will turn out delicious. Of course, even if we fail the first time, we are not disappointed, but we continue the effort.
Needless to say, they go extremely well with coffee, either for breakfast or for the afternoon!
If we have children at home, it is good to make some caffeine - free cinnamon rolls, possibly replacing the coffee with cocoa.
Beware of calories: you do not say it is a dessert suitable for diet!
We use instant coffee, both for greater convenience and for a more intense taste.
We can sprinkle our rolls before serving them with nuts, pieces of chocolate or even a little coffee, while we can decorate them with a coffee bean.
