A taste of America, with coffee flavoured baked donuts

America's favorite "street sweet" in a coffee twisted version with fewer calories

Donuts are one of the most popular "street sweets" in the world. Although most of us have identified them with America, which is extremely popular, the truth is that donuts have a fanatical audience around the world. One of the reasons for their success, apart from their fluffy texture, is the fact that they can be the "canvas" on which many interesting flavors will unfold - such as the coffee donuts, which we recommend today.


In most American movies, police officers seem to enjoy donuts and hot coffee during their breaks, but with this recipe we imagine that they would definitely be happy, since the taste of donuts is endowed with a strong coffee flavor. Still, our donuts are baked in the oven and not fried, which gives them a lighter texture and reduces their calories. And the brown icing, if you dare, will take them off!

 

What do you need for coffee flavoured baked donuts?

  • 2 tablespoons sweet butter
  • 1 cup flour for all uses
  • 1/4 Cocoa cup
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour milk or yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of strong coffee
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of petimezi
  • Chocolate pieces (optional)

 

How are coffee donuts prepared?

  • n a bowl, mix the flour, cocoa and baking powder
  • In another bowl, mix the sugar, yogurt, coffee, egg, 1 tablespoon butter and petimezi.
  • Add the liquid mixture to the solid mixture and stir. If we use pieces of chocolate, we add them.
  • Put our mixture in a pastry cone, and fill 2/3 with a donut tin, which we have already buttered.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Let them rest for 5 minutes, unmold them and leave them for another 5 minutes to rest.

 

BONUS: easy coffee glaze!

Stir in a bowl of lukewarm milk with instant coffee and a little petimezi. Once the coffee is dissolved, add powdered sugar, stirring constantly, until you have a thick icing. Dip the donuts and sprinkle with cocoa or ground coffee.

 

 

Tips for delicious donuts!

  • We use whatever coffee we want, espresso, filter or instant. With espresso, our donuts will become more fragrant, with instant coffee they will have a more intense taste.
  • Sweet is not suitable for children due to caffeine.
  • We definitely need a pastry cornea and a donut mold, otherwise the final texture and shape of the baked dessert will not be right.
  • We can fry the dough, but this will significantly "burden" the taste of our donuts and increase their calories, while in the oven the result is clearly lighter.
  • If our donuts are round with a hole in the middle, we can cover them with brown glaze, but if they are "inflatable", we can fill them with icing, using a syringe, making each bite even tastier.
  • The original American recipe uses buttermilk, something like our sour milk, but we can easily replace it with yogurt.
    The above quantities give us six medium-sized donuts. If more forms, we simply double or triple, respectively, the quantities.
