Encouraging conclusions from a new study by a Chinese university.

Coffee is a "magic" drink and a favorite habit of millions of people around the world. The findings of a scientific study from China show that coffee may help prevent a very common male disease, prostate cancer!

What is a prostate?

The prostate is a small gland, located below the male bladder, and performs important functions in both the urinary and reproductive systems. It is a very sensitive organ, which from the age of forty begins to swell, often ending in benign or malignant hyperplasia. Due to its location and its spongy composition, the prostate is particularly vulnerable to infections. He has a computer that 80% of male reproductive visits to the urologist are due to prostate-related discomfort.

Although prostate-related health problems can cause significant distress to any man, it is a given that their most serious version is associated with prostate cancer - a recent study, however, is particularly encouraging, as it correlates coffee consumption with reduce the chance of prostate cancer!

Does coffee reduce the risk of prostate cancer?

A team of researchers at Shengjing University Hospital in China looked at data from sixteen different studies involving more than 1,000,000 men of all ages from Europe, North America and Japan, including several thousand men with cancer. of the prostate, coming to interesting conclusions.

According to the study, which was recently published in the scientific journal BMJ Open, those men who regularly drink coffee every day, significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer, compared to those who consume less coffee, in percentages approaching 10%. Making a relative reduction, the scientists conclude that each additional cup of coffee per day reduces the risk by almost 1%, a number that is by no means negligible.

Scientists note that these beneficial benefits of coffee are due to its antioxidant components, its anti-inflammatory action and the way caffeine affects glucose metabolism. In addition, they note, the coffee ingredients affect the production of sex-related hormones, which also play an important role in preventing prostate cancer.

Of course, the research team does not fail to clarify that care is needed in "reading" the conclusions, as the study is an observational study and not an experimental one, with the coffee consumed being calculated "according to the statement" of the participants, without experimental confirmation, concluding that While it is almost certain that there is strong evidence for what they claim, the study should be thoroughly reviewed and supplemented with other studies before reaching safe conclusions.

Are there cases of prostate diseases in which coffee is contraindicated?

Despite the optimistic and encouraging findings of the study, each case and each patient are separate, different cases that need to be evaluated differently by a specialist. Also, it should be emphasized that the study concerns exclusively the possibility of developing prostate cancer, and not prostate diseases in general.

There is even a category of diseases in which coffee is contraindicated. In those with benign prostatic hyperplasia, excessive coffee consumption may exacerbate the symptoms. This occurs on the one hand due to the diuretic effect of coffee and on the other hand due to the effect of caffeine on the central nervous system, which makes the nerve endings more sensitive throughout the urinary system, and therefore more intense and less tolerant of the relevant symptoms. This means that men in this category may need to cut back on coffee, switch to less caffeinated solutions, but also watch out for other caffeinated foods, such as energy drinks, certain soft drinks, chocolate and tea.

It goes without saying that the first and last word in any case has the treating physician and no one else, as nothing replaces the advice of a specialized urologist, who knows the clinical picture and history of his patient.

The only sure thing is that in case we do not suffer from a specific health problem, coffee consumption is not only enjoyable, but also extremely beneficial for the body, with benefits that until now we did not even know.
