Quick & Easy Coffee Semifreddo!

A simple and beloved Italian dessert, in a coffee twisted version that will delight you.

Many think of it as an extremely velvety ice cream, and they may not be too unfair, since in Italian, the word Semifreddo means "semi-frozen", meaning ... "almost ice cream". Semifreddo is extremely easy to make, requires only simple materials, and does not require an ice cream machine or other specialized equipment such as homemade ice cream. Still, it is just as enjoyable!

Semifreddo's secret lies in its velvety texture, reminiscent of its icy nature, a delectable ice cream parfait. The "basis" of the recipe is very simple, which allows us to experiment with different flavors and textures. Coffee is one of the most flavorful fragrances for a Semifreddo, since you are loyal to the Italian origin of the dessert and at the same time it adds an interesting bitterness that contrasts with the rich, exuberant sweet taste.

Semifreddo, while considered by many to be summer sweet, is as enjoyable as winter - and it will ideally close any meal or dinner, especially if it includes Italian specialties.

 

What do you need for a  Coffee Semifreddo?

  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 tablespoon coffee liqueur
  • 4 large eggs (separate the egg white from the yolks)
  • 100 grams of brown sugar
  • 300ml whole cream
  • 100 grams of chocolate with almonds or hazelnuts
  • Chocolate flakes, for serving

 

How is Coffee Semifeddo prepared?

  • Butter a cake mold and spread food film
  • In a bowl, mix coffee, liqueur, egg yolks and sugar and beat well, until homogenized.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg whites in a meringue and in another, whisk the cream until it “stands”
  • Combine the blends, incorporating the cream into the coffee blend and then add the meringue.
  • Add the chocolate, broken into small pieces.
  • Cover with the film and freeze for a few hours
  • Serve sprinkled with chocolate flakes

 

 

Tips for a delicious Coffee Semifreddo

  • Many recipes claim that the best liqueur is the authentic Tia Maria, however any coffee liqueur will work just as well.
  • If you don't have a coffee liqueur, you can use asome little brandy and slightly increase the amount of instant coffee used.
  • Chocolate is good to have nuts so that there is a crunchy element that will pleasantly contrast the velvety texture of the semifredo. You can use Toblerone or ION Almond or any chocolate youlike.
  • Use instant coffee for a more intense flavor
  • If you like, you can add ground coffee to yout mix for even more intense coffee flavor
  • Instead of chocolate chunks, you can serve each piece with a coffee bean
  • The sweet is not suitable for children because it contains caffeine and alcohol.
  • It is a good idea to take the semifredo a few minutes out of the refrigerator before serving, to give it a better texture.
  • Eggs are not cooked, so we have to be sure of their quality and be extremely fresh
