Homemade and easy Coffee Toffee, ideal for a treat

Ένα απλό γλυκό, με γεύση παιδικής ηλικίας.

There is no doubt that most of us remember one of the simplest, but also the most delicious sweets of our childhood: roasted nuts, drizzled with chocolate, in improvised chocolates that resembled "rocks".

Our mothers and grandmothers, without knowing it, made a simple and easy variation of the popular dessert called toffee: caramelized sugar with butter, which is almost always accompanied by nuts and chocolate. A small, crunchy and sweet mouthful, full of childhood memories. Of course, our Toffee is not a simple Toffee: it is Coffee Toffee, since it is enriched with coffee aromas.

It is an easy, comfort dessert, which is a very good solution for both a treat and an original gift. And as the weather cools down and we snuggle up at home even more, it's good for our jars to be full of delicious, crunchy, coffee-flavored Toffees!

What do we need for Coffee Toffee?

1 double espresso (about 60 ml)
150 grams of granulated sugar
150 grams of brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey or petimezi
A pinch of salt
250 grams of almonds, roasted and crushed
200 grams of couverture
100 grams of butter

How do we prepare Coffee Toffee?

Heat a medium skillet over low heat
In a pan, heat the butter, sugar, salt, honey and coffee, until the sugar dissolves (ideally until it reaches 140 degrees Celsius)
Remove from the heat, add the ¾ of our almonds
Spread the mixture on baking paper with quick and careful movements.
Add the chocolate pieces
Cover for a few minutes with a second baking paper
Spread the melted chocolate so that it is evenly distributed and add the remaining almonds
Leave to cool and cut into pieces

Tips for crispy and delicious Coffee Toffee

Both our butter and our nuts need to be unsalted.
For a richer taste, lightly roast the almonds before using them.
For better control of the process, it is good to get a simple and cheap pastry thermometer (with metal tip) to remove our candy from the fire at the right time
Great care is required both when mixing and when "spreading" the candy, to avoid burns.
Our toffees are stored in an airtight container, in a cool place, for up to two weeks.
Our toffees do not need to be uniform and "beautiful". We break them into irregular pieces with our hands, something that emphasizes their homemade preparation.
Instead of double espresso, we can use 60ml instant coffee, for even more intense coffee taste.
In a beautiful vase, with a beautiful label or ribbon, they become an amazing, handmade gift for our coffee-loving friends.

If you are waiting for friends for coffee and chat, do not think about it. Lay down in the kitchen and in half an hour you will have the most original and delicious treat!
