by coffees.gr

Why not give the coffee aroma to the simplest homemade sweet there is?

Truffles, small balls that are usually made of chocolate and a host of other materials, such as nuts, dried fruits, wallnuts etc, are without a doubt one of the most popular "treats" available. There is no pastry shop that does not offer them, and there are pastries that specialize in truffles, using excellent raw materials and sophisticated techniques.

Homemade truffles are probably one of the simplest and easiest sweets out there, but also one of everyone's favorite. For most, truffles may have been their first step in pastry, as they require no special technique or specialized materials, while at the same time giving an excellent result that with some clever touches on serving, forms a very impressive treat.

In this recipe, we marry this simple and beloved sweet with our passion for coffee! The truffles that we present have a strong coffee aroma, which pleasantly contrasts the rich, chocolatey taste and unique texture of the truffles. For added convenience, use instant coffee that dissolves directly into the warm cream, while enhancing the aroma with a little coffee liqueur.

What do you need for the Coffee Truffles?

  • 1 cup of whipped cream
  • 1 teaspoon of instant coffee
  • 250gr dark chocolate, in pieces
  • 250gr milk chocolate, in pieces
  • 1 tablespoon of coffee liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 mug of unsweetened cocoa

How are the coffee truffles prepared?

  • In a saucepan, heat the cream and dissolve the instant coffee
  • After two or three minutes, remove from heat, add the chocolates and stir until they melt.
  • Add the liqueur and vanilla and mix
  • Transfer to refrigerator until mixture is firm (3-4 hours)
  • With a small spoonful of ice cream or two teaspoons roll small balls, rolling in cocoa.
  • Truffles are ready to serve.

Tips for delicious coffee truffles

  • If you do not like the taste of alcohol in sweets, the coffee liqueur can be omitted, but its addition greatly improves the texture and makes the truffles "tighten" more easily.
  • In addition to cocoa, you can wrap your truffles in truffle, grated walnut or even ground coffee powder.
  • You can use espresso instead of instant coffee:  replace instant coffee with a double espresso, preferably as possible, and slightly increase the chocolate we use to improve texture.
  • For original serving, you can give the truffles (by hand or with a special mold) in the shape of a coffee bean!
  • You  can serve truffles by placing a whole coffee bean on top of each.
  • Coffee truffles are not suitable for children because they contain instant coffee, so they contain caffeine. It is best to prepare simple chocolate truffles for the children of the house so everyone is happy!
  • Instead of vanilla extract, you can use some honey

The next time you have guests at home, for a celebration, birthday or just a friendly gathering, you can steal the show with small, delicious and full of coffee truffles!
