Delicious Brownies From Used Coffee!

09/08/2019
by coffees.gr

There are many ways to utilize used coffee beans - but the most delicious is to make Espresso Brownies!

The Brownies began in the US and Canada in the early 20th century and quickly conquered the American public, and in recent years they have become very popular in Europe - and of course in our country as well. Less "inflatable" than the classic cake, with a more dense texture and full of flavor, but also with its classic moist interior, the brownies are a sweet all-rounder, suitable for both breakfast and afternoon snacks. They are usually served with a variety of garnishes (such as ice cream, cheese cream frosting) while perfectly accompanying coffee.

Although in brownies the dominant material and the dominant flavor is chocolate, other ingredients, such as nuts or, of course, coffee, can also be added. The recipe we present has the originality of using used ground coffee beans, which makes it more economical and environmentally friendly than other recipes. Such recipes have become particularly popular in the eco-movement, which advocates reducing food waste and using cooking residues in creative ways.

Beyond their ecological dimension, Espresso Brownies are sure to delight you and accompany your breakfast or afternoon espresso perfectly - an easy recipe, even suitable for beginners in cooking or pastry making.

What do you need for Espresso Brownies;

  • 2 apples, cut in pieces and peeled
  • 80 gr used coffee grounds
  • 250 gr dark chocolate
  • 400 gr brown sugar
  • 120 gr flour
  • 150 ml olive oil
  • 50 gr cocoa

How are Espresso Brownies prepared?

  • In a frying pan, add the apples and coffee beans together with two teaspoons and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender (about five minutes).
  • Mash them with a rod blender, wipe and pour the chocolate, stirring until it melts.
  • Add sugar, flour, oil and cocoa and mix well.
  • Put the dough on a buttered baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
  • Serve at room temperature.

Tips for sucessfull Espresso Brownies

  • For the brownies to be delicious and well-textured, their inside must still be moist. You can do the "toothpick test" by dipping a toothpick in the center of the brownies, but unlike the cake, our toothpick needs to come out wet.
  • You can use whatever coffee residue we have available, either from one blend or more.
  • The coffee residues we use should be fresh, with humidity and should not start to go bad (ie, mold marks or bad smell)
  • Serve the brownies with ice cream, whipped cream, or some chocolate syrup.

Following this recipe, it is certain that no one will throw away used coffee again. Grab your used espresso beans, sprinkle and make delicious brownies that will delight anyone who tastes them.
