Iced Mango Latte, a tropical coffee from Asia

20/07/2020
by coffees.gr

We are used to combining coffee with various "strange" ingredients… why not with the most popular tropical fruit?

Mango originates from Southeast Asia, but today it is one of the most widespread fruits in the world, as it is grown in all countries of the tropics, in South America, Asia and Africa. Countries like India and the Philippines consider it their national fruit, while it is used in a variety of preparations, extremely diverse! Mango is eaten raw, in juice, in ice creams and granitas, as an ingredient in curry, as a supplement in hot sauces, dried, but also in pickles. Few ingredients are as versatile as this delicious, sweet and sour tropical fruit.

The mango was next to penetrate the Asian coffee culture, which is based on the mixing of different ingredients, in part because of the strength and robustness of Asian coffee, which can be combined with a variety of spices, milk, tea or with fruit without losing its intensity and character.

Iced Mango Latte is a bit strange for western palates, but if you love tropical flavors and like mangoes, it might be your new favorite coffee. If not, it will definitely be a fun experiment, especially for the summer months.

Tips for delicious Iced Mango Lattes

  • Iced Mango Latte has an impressive appearance, since its three ingredients create "layers". You may need some practice to do this properly.
  • You can use ready-made juice or mango puree, but it usually has lot of sugar. For a healthier and more spirited result, beat the mango in the blender with a little water, if it turns out too thick.
  • Generally, whether you use juice or fresh fruit, avoid adding extra sugar.
  • YOur fruit should not be unripe (hard and sour) nor too ripe. A greengrocer you trust will find you the right fruit for your latte.
  • If you like adventurous flavors, you can grind the fruit and add one or two small chili peppers. Not everyone will like the result, but it is extremely interesting and very refreshing.
  • Use a coffee rich in beans from Asia, for a delicious profile that matches the mango. O’ccaffe Café Crème combines the fruity aromas of Ethiopian Arabica with spicy Robusta from India and Vietnam, while O’Caffe Classico marries Brazilian Arabica and Asian Robusta, making it a more balanced choice.
  • For a vegan version of the drink, replace the milk with coconut cream, which we whip into whipped cream instead of frothed milk. The taste is different, but enhances the Tropical character of the drink.

Summer wants delicious fruit, iced coffee and flavors that will create new emotions - and these are exactly what Iced Mango Latte combines.
