Joerges Kaffee : Ποιοτικός Espresso με σήμα το Γορίλα!

Germany's oldest espresso brand wants to provide "good coffee to the whole world".

When we think of espresso, our minds certainly go to neighboring Italy, which is also the “mother” of the popular coffee. However, coffee is a very old affair in Europe, and although Italy holds the scepter of espresso, there are espresso brands in other corners of the Old Continent, who know coffee in depth and know how to produce remarkable blends.

One of these companies, which is not only among the oldest but also among the highest quality, is undoubtedly Joerges Kaffee from Germany.

A brief history of Joerges Kaffee

The history of Joerges begins 180 years ago, when A. Joerges opened an import company in Frankfurt, Germany, supplying German consumers with products and delicacies from all over the world. Coffee is one of its main products: Joerges imports green coffee beans from various parts of the world, roasts them and teaches its customers what “good coffee” means.

The company survived the turbulent course of Germany, maintaining its strength, its faith in finding good raw materials, its love for coffee and creating a know-how that now counted for decades. When the time came and the company’s management changed hands, Joerges once again remained a family business, but with Heinz Huhsam, an old customer of the company, who also ran a food business, at the helm. Huhsam decided to focus on importing and roasting coffee even more, with a vision that became the company’s motto: “good coffee should be accessible to everyone.”

From Joerges Kaffee to Gorilla Blends!

For years, the new Joerges brand was constantly experimenting with origins, blends and roasts, aiming to achieve the perfect espresso blend, until in 2004, the new coffee range was a reality. The “Gorilla” brand was launched that year, and was such a success with the German (and more generally, European) public that the company moved to larger and more modern facilities a few years later.

Gorilla believes that blending, the mixing of different varieties, is one of the key elements that makes good coffee stand out – as long as the quality of the raw material is up to par. Thus, the top Arabica and Robusta varieties from all over the world (the company has been in the international trade sector for many years, so it has relationships with producers from all over the world) are roasted as soon as they arrive in Germany, with times, temperatures and techniques that best suit each one, in order to deliver aromas and flavors to the maximum extent.

The result is a series of 6 different blends, enriched by a few more, more sophisticated options (Decaf, Organic and Single Origin coffee). Each blend has its own personality and its own character: one focuses on intensity and delicious cream, another on the unique aromas of fine Arabica, another on balance. However, they all share many things in common: the high-quality raw material, the skillful roasting, and the belief in the principles of sustainable agriculture and respect for the environment, as expressed by the name of the series itself.

Get to know Gorilla Blends!

Superbar Crema: Hiding Arabica and Robusta beans from three continents, it is a blend with full body and thick cream, which stands out for its rich flavor with notes of honey, chocolate and nuts.

Delicato: Arabica from Central America is married to Asian Robusta, in a blend with notes of chocolate, honey and flowers, which is fascinating.
