¡TIERRA! by Lavazza: sustainability, quality, respect for the environment

What is the Lavazza ¡TIERRA! project?

The project ¡TIERRA! was launched in 2002, through a corporate social responsibility program, to improve the social and environmental conditions of coffee production. The program aimed to improve working conditions, but also the production and cultivation techniques of some small coffee-producing communities around the world. Basic principles of ¡TIERRA! project is sustainability, high quality, respect for the environment and real help to small coffee producers.

Today, 18 years later, the Lavazza Tierra series has not only managed to achieve its goals to a significant extent, but at the same time has become a quality guarantee for every espresso lover, since its logo has been identified with some of the most quality and enjoyable blends available.

 

The four axes that characterize the Lavazza ¡TIERRA! project

  • Sustainable Development: The series was launched because of Lavazza's ethical commitment to sustainable development. The Rainforest Alliance, a non-governmental organization that advocates for and promotes the rights and working conditions of growers by certifying their farms, has proved to be a valuable partner in this endeavor. The standards, social, labor and environmental set by the Rainforest Alliance are very strict in order to certify every farm and the Tierra series utilizes coffees and crops from certified plantations, actively supporting the effort of sustainable development.
  • Quality: By choosing a blend of the Tierra series, we can be absolutely sure of the high quality standards that have been followed in all stages of its production, from the cultivation and processing of the grains, to the roasting, mixing and packaging. The beans that end up in the espresso blends of Lavazza Tierra, whether they belong to the Arabica or Robusta variety, are of top quality, something that is also evident in the taste and aromas of the blends.
  • Multinationality: The blenders behind Tierra's endeavor take full advantage of the colorful world of coffee, carefully selecting beans from three continents and over 10 different countries, carefully listening to what each variety has to offer. To date, the Tierra range has included small coffee producers from Ethiopia, Vietnam, Brazil, India, Peru, Honduras and Colombia.
  • Variety: Lavazza Tierra blends are available in granules, ground for espresso or filter, but even in capsules for Lavazza Blue machines. The range includes a wide range of blends, from single varieties and organic coffees, to 100% Arabica Blends and from there to traditional espresso blends mixing Arabica and Robusta. Every coffee lover can find in the Tierra range a blend that fully meets their tastes, as Lavazza's goal is to make quality coffee accessible to everyone.

  • Tierra Selection: The most characteristic blend of the series, consists of 100% Arabica beans from Brazil, Peru and Colombia. It is characterized by an intense aroma, rich body and deep taste dominated by chocolate notes. A popular choice that has easily won over large audiences.
  • Tierra Bio Organic: A 100% Arabica blend that hides beans from certified organic farms from three different continents. It is characterized by a light taste, with strong floral aromas and fruity notes, and promises a different espresso experience.
  • Tierra Brasile Intense: An espresso blend with Arabica and Robusta beans from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its body is intense, the aroma is complex and its flavor palette includes notes of cocoa, hazelnut and brown sugar. Excellent even in cold preparations.
  • Tierra Brasile Extra Intense: The best Arabica and Robusta beans from Brazil are skillfully mixed and roasted in an espresso blend with delicious notes reminiscent of caramel, cocoa and cereal and a strong, intense body. It stands out especially with the addition of milk.
  • Τierra Colombia: Exclusively Arabica washed beans from the highlands of Colombia endow this blend with gentle aromas of tropical fruits, citrus fruits and jasmine, while Lavazza helps small producers marginalized by the armed conflict in Colombia.
