Melted chocolate and coffee, in the perfect friendly afternoon sweet.

Fondue is a Swiss dish, which in its original form is made of melted cheese and an assortement of small bite-sized garnishes - it's the ultimate dish for friends, as everyone is invited to dive their bites into delicious melted cheese ! Dating back to the medieval years, it was considered as a "national dish" of Switzerland from the early 20th century, and since the middle of the century its popularity has sprung up all over the world, and with it various variations have flourished.

One of Fondue's most popular variants is of course the chocolate fondue. An easy-to-prepare home-made dish that always brings the company closer together, since dipping fruit or cookies in delicious chocolate is a favorite habit. As coffee lovers, we present a variation of the variant: the Mocha Fondue, which combines the best of cocoa and strong coffee flavors.

What do you need for Mocha Fondue?

  • 250 grams black chocolate in pieces
  • 60 grams butter
  • 300 grams heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons of strong coffee soup
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 large egg yolks, beat
  • Fruit pieces, cookies, cake biscuits etc

How is Mocha Fondue prepared?

  • In a saucepan, heat the cream over low heat.
  • Pour butter and chocolate pieces and stir until the mixture is homogenized.
  • Add the coffee and salt
In a bowl, whisk the yolks and add a little of the warm mixture, as if egg.
  • Add the egg mixture to the original mixture, cook to 160 degrees or until the mixture boils.
  • Transfer to fondant (to keep the mixture warm) and serve with pieces of fruit, cookies or whatever else we have prepared.

Tips for a delicious Mocha Fondue

  • Μocha Fondue is a dessert meant to be shared! All the fun is in serving, so it's best to make it while waiting for people at home.
  • Dive whatever you want on the hot sauce, as long as the flavors match (avoid very sour fruit or very intense fruit)
  • Minimal salt helps maintain the correct texture.
  • For a more intense coffee flavor, add a little instant coffee, as desired, before adding the eggs.
  • The egg-laying process is reminiscent of classic "avgolemono" and requires care to be done correctly.
  • It's not a good idea to serve this fondue to children because of caffeine - but omitting it, we have a delicious chocolate fondue.
  • Eggs should be fresh and of good quality, although they are slightly cooked .

Coffee is more delicious when shared - so are sweets! So what better than sharing a delicious Fodi with our friends overflowing with coffee aromas.
