Siciliano, an afternoon aperitif with Cold Brew and Italian liqueurs

03/04/2020
by coffees.gr

An original combination of flavors and aromas that excites.

The combination of coffee and alcohol, although it may seem original and unusual to some of us, is actually quite popular in bars around the world. Coffee-based cocktails combine the tonic character of coffee with the relaxation offered by alcohol, and are suitable either for afternoon aperitifs or at the beginning of the night. And although there are Coffee Cocktails that are nothing but the brown version of classic drinks, such as Espresso Martini or Coffee Margarita, there are also coffee cocktails that have been designed from the beginning, such as Siciliano.

Siciliano marries favorite Italian flavors, such as vermouth and amaro liqueur, with the strong Cold Brew coffee, in a cocktail that is particularly pleasant to drink as an aperitif, on a hot spring afternoon. It does not require special equipment, only a simple cocktail shaker and we do not need to have a barman cellar to prepare it easily and quickly at home.

What do you need for a brilliant Siciliano?

  • 60 ml sweet Vermouth
  • 45 ml amaro liquer
  • 45 ml strong Cold Brew
  • 30 ml simple sirop
  • Soda
  • Orange Peel, for garnishing

How is  Siciliano prepared?

  • In a shaker, beat all the ingredients except the soda
  • In a glass with ice, drain the shaker and fill with soda
  • Garnish with the orange peel

Tips for a delicious Siciliano

  • You can use any Italian vermouth we want. Some sweeter will pleasantly contrast the bitterness of coffee, making our drink more interesting
  • Do not add sugar, only the simple syrup, which also helps to achieve the right texture in our cocktail.
  • Instead of Cold Brew, you can use a double espresso, but the taste of Cold Brew suits Siciliano better than the intensity of the espresso.
  • You can prepare Cold Brew very easily on our own, following these simple steps.
  • Enjoy responsibly! Despite the presence of coffee, Siciliano remains an alcoholic cocktail, with all that that entails.
  • You can prepare Cold Brew (or our espresso) with whatever blend we prefer, however a fragrant, 100% Arabica blend definitely suits the character of the cocktail more.
  • For a more "adventurous" taste, in addition to the orange peel, add a little orange juice, just before serving.

We're going through tough days lately, and we need a little relaxation - so a little aperitif in the afternoon is forgiven. Especially if it consists of favorite Italian liqueurs and strong coffee Cold Brew!
