When it comes to really good coffee, the choice is one way.

Many argue that one way to find out if someone is a coffee fan or not is to consider if they are buying their coffee in beans. Although this aphorism remains general, it is a fact that as one moves into the world of coffee, one turns (almost exclusively) to coffee in beans, marginalizing the other forms in which coffee is available.

Regardless of whether one loves espresso or filter coffee, whether one prefers blends or single-variety coffees, whether one chooses cold or hot coffee, everyone will agree that the aroma and taste of coffee beans are incomparable.

We gathered the main reasons why it is worth choosing our coffee in beans, so that we always enjoy the coffee we deserve.

Γιατί να επιλέξουμε τον καφέ μας σε κόκκους;

More variety of options: Although most coffee companies offer several blends and in the form of ground coffee, it is a fact that when we buy coffee beans, our options are clearly more. There are many companies that choose to sell only their best-known, best-selling blends, while there are also companies that are not active at all in this field, as they choose to sell their blends only in the form of grains.

If we use coffee beans, the variety that opens up in front of us is literally endless, as all companies, small or large, have all their blends definitely in beans, making us… have a headache to choose from.

More flexibility: Ground coffee, whether espresso or filter, can be prepared in a single way, on the machine. However, choosing coffee beans, and having our own grinder, the options are countless, as the same coffee can be tried in any extract we choose, espresso, filter, cold extract, or even more experimental and sophisticated machines, such as drippers or Pour Over coffee makers.

Even if we are espresso fanatics, we know that the extraction depends on various factors, such as temperature, time and of course the degree of grinding. As different blends may work differently with each machine, the grinder and the coffee bean allow us to slightly "correct" the grinding of our coffee, resulting in the result we want, each time.

Easier storage and greater freshness: With the grinding of coffee, the countdown to the loss of its aromas begins. Although commercial coffees are available in airtight bags, which keep the aroma unchanged, the problem begins with opening the package. This is due to the much smaller area of the ground coffee particles, compared to the corresponding grain, which allows the aromas to escape more easily.

On the contrary, coffee beans are easier to store, without losing their freshness and aroma, and if stored in an airtight container, away from odors and high temperatures, they can remain unchanged for a very, very long time, so that each time we grind the quantity we need and always enjoy freshly ground, aromatic coffee.

Greater economy: There is no doubt that coffee beans are the most economical option when it comes to coffee. Coffee capsules (apart from their large ecological footprint and the volume of waste they create) are significantly more expensive than coffee beans, while ground coffee is more expensive (per kilo). This happens not only due to the cost of grinding, but mainly due to the fact that ground coffee is usually available in packages of 250gr, which means increased costs of packaging, distribution, etc., which of course are passed on to the final consumer.

The difference in price, especially if we are coffee lovers, is so significant that it quickly depreciates the cost of buying the grinder and any other accessories we need.

Good coffee has never been easy, and we always try to take a small step towards the perfect cup. Buying our coffee in beans, the coffee we deserve definitely comes closer.
