How can we make winter coffee a little more enjoyable?

Simple tips for a winter overflowing with good coffee!

Winter, which for a few days has made its appearance for good, is a special time: melancholic, a little dark, but full of other stimuli, new images, and of course ... cold! Winter in Greece may be mild and sweet, but it has a direct impact on all our habits, and of course on the coffee we drink.

An English proverb says that coffee is "a hug in a mug", - and that is why we are looking for warm, warm, comfort coffees that can warm us, literally and metaphorically, in winter. How can we make our daily habit more enjoyable with a few simple steps, this winter too?

How can we make winter coffee a little more enjoyable?

Say goodbye (for a while!) To cold coffee

In Greece we love cold coffee very much, which is perfectly reasonable due to our climatic conditions and the prolonged summer we usually enjoy in our country. For years,  frappe has been a cornerstone of Greek coffee culture, and with the advent of espresso, we have (and have frozen) Italian coffee, inventing Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino. The latest addition to Cold Brews, Cold Brew, quickly gained a huge following in our country.

However, coffee is a drink that is destined to be hot - and with low winter temperatures, hot coffee is a first choice. Whether you love espresso, or you prefer filter coffee, or even traditional Greek coffee, nothing can get you hotter than a mug or a cup of hot, aromatic coffee, both on a cold morning and during the day. Have a little patience until the first bright days of spring to enjoy a freddo again, and discover unique flavors and aromas with a mug of hot coffee!

Give  filter coffee a try

It is a fact that in our country, filter coffee has never won the hearts of the public, unlike the United States or the countries of Northern Europe. However, even if you are a swear espresso lover (which is, after all, the king of coffee, no doubt) winter can make you a second chance at the misunderstood filter coffee.

If your filter coffee looks tasteless and boring, you can upgrade it by reading tips for better and tastier filter coffee at home, or try out new extraction methods, such as Aeropress or Pour Over Glass Coffee Makers, which promise a tidy filter coffee . There is nothing better on a rainy and frosty winter Sunday than a jug full of hot coffee, which makes the house mellow and the atmosphere full of warmth.

Add some alcohol to your coffee

Coffee fits in perfectly with a glass of alcohol, and the result, in addition to being delicious and original, is also particularly warming when temperatures are stuck at low temperatures. Perhaps the first ones to teach are Italians themselves, with classic and traditional espresso corretto, but you can choose from dozens of recipes that combine coffee with alcohol, or even improvise, adding a few drops of your favorite beverage to it your hot coffee. Alcoholic beverages that match perfectly with coffee are usually whiskey, brandy, rum, and coffee or chocolate flavored liqueurs.

However, keep in mind that adding alcohol drastically increases the calories of coffee, and that the tonic effect of coffee does not in any way offset the properties of alcohol. Consume your "enhanced" coffees in moderation, and set aside the steering wheel if you've drunk enough.

Enhance the taste and aroma of coffee with a few drops of syrup

The concept of "winter" coffee is not only about its temperature, but (it should) relate to its comfort, edible nature. A few drops of coffee syrup can give each coffee a distinct character, making it reminiscent of a dessert. Of course, it is prudent to always keep in mind the calories and add our syrup sparingly so as not to get hit by calories ... bombs, however a little chocolate, caramel or hazelnut flavor in a mug of steaming coffee is best winter, gray day.

Pay attention to the coffee you buy

Coffee, in order to be enjoyable, beneficial to health and not to cause any of the usual hassles it can bring, such as in the stomach or nervous system, must always be of good quality. Do not treat coffee as a petty habit, but as a gastronomic delight, as a natural product that must be top quality and tasteful. Experiment with different blends, different varieties and companies, but always be sure that the coffee you are supplying is quality, genuine and authentic. The results will be visible in your cup!

Winter lasts for three whole months, with its wild and sweet days. So we have to spend it as beautifully as we can, always with good coffee - the coffee we deserve.
