At this time of the year, shops are flooded with special Christmas Blends that promise to give a Christmas atmosphere to the daily coffee enjoyment. How easy is it to make our own Christmas blend at home?

Christmas is interwoven, apart from festive decoration, gifts and Christmas songs, and with special, winter flavors, both in food and drinks. Typically, the days before Christmas holidays, the market is flooded with "Christmas blends", both in coffee and other beverages such as tea or chocolate, while the blends used to flavor wine are also missing. liqueurs or the brandy of Christmas.

Christmas Blends are usually based on the use of "winter spices", which add to the beverages or beverages a special flavor, which is imprinted in the minds of most of us as a pure Christmas, combined with pleasant memories of celebrations. These Christmas, we can experiment and make our own Christmas blend for the coffee of the festive days: beyond the joy that will give us and our loved ones, it is also a special, beautiful gift for those who love coffee.

What will we need for our homemade Xmas Blend?

1 kg coffee in beans

8 cinammon sticks

80 allspice grains

40 cloves

20 black peppercorns

How is Xmas Blend prepared?

  • Grind the coffee in your grinding mill
  • In a spice grinder or pestle, break your spices to reach small and larger pieces (but not powder)
  • Stir the spices with the ground coffee
  • Divide the mixture into four 250 gram jars each
  • Leave it in a shady, cool place for 10-15 days to mix the fragrances.

Tips for a sucessful Xmas Blend :

  • The spices used are a good "base", which can be changed according to your taste. If you want something lighter, we can replace allspice and pepper with ginger, while many people enjoy the special aroma of nutmeg. If you want a flavor that reminds us of Christmas candy, keep the cinnamon and the carnation and add cocoa and vanilla seeds or for the more daring, licorice and asteroid anise!
  • It is better to choose coffee in beans and grind it on your own, as this gives us greater control over the process (as long as we have our coffee grinder).
  • Choose a coffee that is relatively strong, with a moderate body and not very aromatic, to function as a consistent base for spice flavors.
  • The extraction that gives the best result in Christmas blends is filter extraction, without excluding the other ways of making - a Christmas cappuccino would definitely be interesting!
  • Do not be afraid to add milk, sugar or chocolate syrup - during Christmas a few more calories are allowed.
  • Depending on the spices you use, Christmas coffee also goes well with alcohol - usually a little whiskey, a little rum or a cognac.
  • It is good to leave the fragrances mixed, so prepare your blend around fifteen to twenty days before consumption.
  • If you have friends who love coffee, a handmade Christmas blend is a great gift. Buy quality coffee & spices, prepare your blend and do not forget to beautifully decorate the jars that you will offer, with stickers, ribbons or Christmas balls.

This Christmas, gather together with your friends early in the christmas eve afternoon and serve offee from your own, personal Christmas blend. Do not forget when they leave, have a little jar, as a gift, to drink the first Christmas coffee dipped in the aromatic spices.
