The Portuguese's special relationship with coffee has its roots at the close ties between Portugal and Brazil. The Portuguese imported coffee plants for the first time in Brazil, making it the leading country in coffee production worldwide. Portugal’s coffee trade, based on Brazil and other Portuguese colonies such as Angola, Mozambique and Timor, has made coffee and everyday habit for every Portuguese and has uniquely touted their delicious sensory - Portuguese people know the differences between good and bad coffee.

For years, Portugal has developed its own unique coffee culture, which varies considerably from the Italian one, both in terms of coffee bean roasting and preparation of the espresso: the coffee beans are slowly roasted at low temperatures, and the coffee is extracted with great pressure - these small details are responsible for the unique character of the Portuguese espresso. Portuguese coffee is usually strong: the blends are made up of carefully selected Arabica and Robusta varieties, resulting in intense coffee, with strong body and wide aromatic pallet.

How to drink coffee like a Portuguese :

- While in Lisbon, order coffee as "uma bica". As Portuguese coffee is strong enough, an urban myth has it that bica stands for Beba Isto Com Açucar, meaning "drink it with sugar"!

- The traditional Portuguese espresso is larger than his Italian cousin: the usual portion is 30ml instead of 20ml. - Vamos tomar café is the usual call for an espresso, and means much more than the coffee itself, it is a call to meet, chat, and see friends during the day.

- Do not hesitate to enjoy your coffee late at night. For the Portuguese, it is not uncommon to drink the last espresso cup at 10:00 or 10:30 in the evening.

- Choose a brand of authentic Portuguese coffee to enjoy its unique fragrance.

Among the most popular brands of Portuguese coffee, one company stands out: Delta Cafes. Almost synonymous with Portuguese coffee, Delta Cafes holds a market share of 50%. Many years have passed since 1961, when Manuel Rui Azinhais Nabeiro opened his first coffee roasting shop in Alentejo, Campo Maior. Today, the business that started out of that small shop has grown into the largest coffee company in Portugal and its brand, Del coffee, in the most popular and recognizable Portuguese coffee.

Del Espresso is available in two unique blends which, regardless of their differcences, share Delta Cafes' know-how, experience and quality guarantee. Whether you choose Diamond or Platinum, a few sips are able to travel to the country of colorful tiles, yellow trams and fados

Del Diamond is a special blend of fine Arabica beans from Africa and South America, roasted with the traditional Portuguese know-how. The result is a coffee with a rich body and aroma, subtle taste and intense memory.

Del Platinum is a result of a carefully selection among the best Arabica and Robusta coffee ceans. Del Platinum is characterised by strength, pure body and fruity flavors - it's a coffee suitable for every circumstance, bearing the magic of a good blend.
