A new trend that emerged from social networks.
In recent years, social networks have changed for good the way we deal with food and gastronomy in general, and of course coffee could not remain unaffected by this important change. First Instagram, and then TikTok, are responsible for some of the most widespread culinary trends of recent years - after all, the planet rediscovered instant coffee (and especially, its thick cream) from Dalgona, the coffee that went viral by TikTok during the lockdowns to deal with the coronavirus.
Certainly, things are no longer so innocent and there are not a few content producers who create imaginative recipes, simply aiming for views and followers and the temporary publicity that the medium gives. Ethan Rode, aka 'The Coffee Guy' as he's known on Social Media, has a related series 'Making Coffee with Things You Shouldn't' - and his recent video has garnered thousands of views and comments, with a simple and humble material.
Being based in Wisconsin, USA, which is full of… cornfields, Ethan thought if he could combine his favorite beverage with his hometown's most characteristic agricultural product, corn, and thus a new internet sensation, Corn Coffee, was born. In reality, of course, corn syrup as a sweetener in the US is not that uncommon, but it might be interesting to see Ethan Rode's strange concoction.
What do we need for the… corn coffee?
1 corn
Milk
Sugar
Water
Ice
Extracted Espresso
How do we prepare... corn coffee?
In a blender, grind the corn kernels with water and sugar.
Strain with a turban, so that we have as pure a corn syrup as possible.
We add milk to the syrup, and beat well, until we make a... cornflower milk.
Fill a glass with ice, add milk, corn milk and espresso – and our Corn Coffee is ready.
To some, it may not sound particularly appetizing, while others may be tempted to repeat the experiment by turning it up a notch – why not? - and on their social networks. As long as there is coffee and imagination, we are never bored.
