A 60-year-old company that is the best ambassador of Neapolitan Espresso.
Italy is the birthplace of espresso, with the Italian coffee culture slowly conquering the whole world. Even in Italy, there are regions that stand out for their unique espresso tradition. One of these regions is the Italian South and especially Naples, and if there is a brand that best expresses the characteristics of Neapolitan coffee, it is none other than KIMBO.
The motto of KIMBO in Greece is #loveatfirstsip, precisely because the feeling of love is what you feel with the very first sip of your coffee. Let's get to know her better!
What is the history of KIMBO?
The story of KIMBO begins 60 years ago, when three brothers started roasting coffee in their father's bakery in Naples. In a city where practically everyone was involved in the art of coffee and passed it down from generation to generation, the talent and instinct of the brothers Francesco, Gerardo and Elio Rubino stood out. The next step was the creation of KIMBO, an espresso brand identified with the "capital of espresso", Naples.
Although the business started as a family coffee roaster, very soon the popularity of KIMBO's blends spread beyond the boundaries of the neighborhood, with people coming from every corner of the Italian South to try them. Their reputation grew gradually, as we enjoy a cup of good coffee. Making the blends available to espresso bars and households was the next move for the Rubino brothers.
In 1960 the Rubino brothers take advantage of technological progress to grow KIMBO even more. With the revolutionary vacuum container packaging, the Neapolitan tradition of authentic espresso could travel anywhere in the world. Their coffee became famous throughout Italy and the world under the name KIMBO, gaining an important position in the market.
Today, KIMBO is one of the most recognizable espresso brands across Europe. In Greece, KIMBO coffee is supplied by APANECA IKE.
What is the secret behind KIMBO espresso?
With over sixty years of experience, KIMBO insists that the secret behind quality espresso is, first of all, the careful selection of the raw material, i.e. the coffee beans. This is why KIMBO takes great care in selecting green coffees directly from places like Ethiopia, Guatemala, India and more.
All phases of coffee tree cultivation are carefully monitored and subjected to multiple controls. In this way, the coffee trees grow in a healthy way and produce excellent quality "cherries", which hide their most valuable treasure, the green beans that will end up in KIMBO's espresso blends.
Such quality raw material deserves the best roasting! The beans are roasted at temperatures from 160° to 250°C, for a period of time ranging from 8 to 12 minutes. Roasting takes place in three phases: drying to remove moisture, roasting and cooling to room temperature. At this stage the coffee acquires its unique aroma. The know-how and experience of KIMBO roasters can be seen in the selection of the right roasting time. Careful packaging simply ensures that the coffee will reach every home or shop, unchanged, with all its flavors and aromas.
