A museum dedicated to the evolution of espresso.
When we are on vacation, especially in another country, we are usually obsessed with seeing "everything". Thus, we congregate in galleries, natural history museums and archeological sites, even if we are not fanatical lovers of art, dinosaurs or archeology. Why not choose the museums we will visit based on our real interests?
In a picturesque Binasco Strait, a small Italian town about 12 kilometers from bustling Milan, a beautiful, modern red building houses a museum that is the dream of every true espresso lover. The reason of course for MUMAC!
What exaclty is MUMAC?
The initials MUMAC come from the phrase Museo della Macchina per Caffe, meaning "Museum of Coffee Machines", in Greek. MUMAC was founded in 2012 by the espresso machine company Cimbali, as part of the celebrations for the 100 years of operation of the company and houses one of the most complete and impressive collections of coffee machines in the world. Although operated under the auspices of Cimbali, the museum naturally does not limit its exhibits to the company's machines, but includes a huge range of exhibits from all relevant companies, which have contributed to the development of espresso machines.
What has the museum to offer to its visitors?
The Mumac visitor's route passes through hundreds of espresso machines, through which the story of Italian coffee unfolds. From primitive attempts to popular machines that made history and changed forever the way we still enjoy our coffee today, the lucky espresso lover who visits Mumac has the opportunity to see the evolution of espresso machines, and through it , the evolution of our favorite coffee.
Museologically, the route is divided into six parts, chronologically organized, each of which refers to a different era. Each individual room is designed to fill the visitor with useful and interesting information, which does not only concern the technological development of machines, but also examines the subject from a sociological point of view. The route starts from the first machines of 1901, passes to the machines of the interwar period and ends up in the machines of the 60's - 80's that shaped the current landscape in espresso.
A day full of interest activities
Naturally, Mumac is not limited to espresso machines, but also provides a lot of information about espresso. In a specially designed space, barista experts organize seminars, tastings and evenings in which the secrets of espresso unfold to anyone interested, whether it concerns the proper operation of an espresso machine, or useful tips for proper extraction, or even the taste differences between different espresso blends. . It goes without saying, of course, that the museum has a very elegant cafe, which serves excellent Italian espresso.
In addition to the above, MUMAC has perhaps the most up-to-date library on coffee in the world, which consists of 15,000 items of all kinds, most of which are accessible to visitors.
Italy is famous, among other things, for one of its gifts to humanity, espresso - so it makes sense for the largest museum for its machines to be located just outside of Milan. When we return to our travels, Mumac is waiting for us!

Κάθε επιμέρους αίθουσα είναι σχεδιασμένη ώστε να γεμίζει τον επισκέπτη χρήσιμες και ενδιαφέρουσες πληροφορίες, που δεν αφορούν απλά την τεχνολογική εξέλιξη των μηχανών, αλλά εξετάζουν το θέμα και από κοινωνιολογική σκοπιά. Η διαδρομή ξεκινά από τις πρώτες μηχανές του 1901, περνά στις μηχανές της μεσοπολεμικής εποχής και καταλήγει στις μηχανής των δεκαετιών ’60 – ’80 που διαμόρφωσαν εξάλλου το σημερινό τοπίο στον espresso.
